For all the “Global Warming” talk that is going around, there seems to be an equal amount of people saying “Global Cooling”. Here are some links I found about the Global Cooling said to be already underway.
Evidence of Global Cooling [FoxNews.com]
Global Temperature Trends Graph [thepeoplesvoice.org]
Study Says More Global Cooling Ahead [National Center for Policy Analysis]
Humans are not causing any sort of global warming crisis [Environment & Climate News]
All of the links say that the trends seem to indicate Global Cooling will happen (or is already happening) due to natural global climate cycles. The graph certainly shows how the earth goes through a lot of climate changes over time. I am very interested to hear what all of you think.

If you haven’t heard yet, I am engaged to a wonderful young woman. We are both very excited. I don’t know what else to say. I can post links to our engagement story if anybody is interested.
On top of that, we just purchased our first home together. The paperwork is being processed and we hope to get the keys by the end of next week. I will post some pictures of our home when I get around to taking some.
That’s all for now.

If you remember, last year at the State Games of Oregon my water polo team, the Portland Masters, received the bronze medal. This year the end result was the same. Again some members of our club split off to make their own team and ended up winning the gold medal. While our two rosters remained somewhat similar to last year’s, our competition was very different. A team from Oregon State University who did not compete last year finished with the silver medal.
The one day tournament at the Multnomah Athletic Club proved to be a great experience. Water polo tournaments with good competition and good sportsmanship are quite fun. A side note about the MAC club is that their pool is pretty nice but their website looks like a fifth grader designed it.
The bronze medal game was a very interesting one. We were matched up against a team named Oregon Coaches, and as you can assume their team was made up of water polo coaches. During a game earlier that day we lost to the Oregon Coaches by a few goals. Would the outcome be a repeat of the earlier game?
For some reason we come out scoring in this game. After a short while were able to get a sizable lead in the score. Then in the fourth quarter with a commanding lead, I was put in to play another position (besides my usual position of goalkeeper). I held my own for a few minutes. Swimming up and down the pool as well as playing some offense and defense. Then after a quick steal by one of our players, our team had a fast break with only seconds left in the game. I swam as fast as I could down the right side of the pool. My teammate had the ball on the left side of the goal and quickly passed the ball to me. Later he said, “when I saw our goalie completely open I just had to pass him the ball”. I picked up the ball to take a shot…and the time ran out right before I could throw the ball into a mostly unguarded goal. I was less than a second away from scoring!
So, unlike last year, I did not get to score in the final game…but I was close. Pretty good for a goalie, if I do say so myself.

Within one month both my uncle and my grandpa died. Both losses are sad enough on their own, but the sadness seems greater because of how close together they happened. Both seemed to be a reminder of the death of my father last summer, which is all too fresh in my mind.
I have some great memories of my uncle. I have some great memories of my grandpa as well. They were good men who taught me a lot without saying much.
At this point, I am not ashamed to mention that I have cried many times in the last month. My mother has lost her husband, brother, and father. My cousins have lost their father, uncle, and grandpa. Please keep my extended family in your thoughts and prayers. God bless.

Knoppix is one of the best Linux Live CDs I have used. The hardware detection is very good (however, I have not tried to use my USB scanner with it). It is easily mount HDDs and USB devices with different filesystem formats.

The default software seems to include everything that I have wanted to use it for. It has the utilities necessary for system recovery (which is my primary use of Knoppix), network diagnosis, internet browsing, etc.

While I think this is a great distribution, I would not recommend it for new Linux users. The user interface does not contain as much eye candy as other Linux Live CDs that I will post reviews for in the future. The great utility of this Linux Live CD makes it quite useful. I currently have a Knoppix CD in my work briefcase. You never know when you might need it!
Stats as tested on my old P4 test box.

This graph show that the bootup time is 2 min. and 17.7 sec.
